The year has begun and we’re off to a flying start at CYT. I’ve been here for a month now and already we’ve had a fantastic Summer Madness workshop, which culminated in a performance of great strength and currency about bullying. This was facilitated by two of our excellent tutors, Andrew Eddey and Casey Elder, but very importantly, the topic itself was chosen by the participants who also generated the content.
Workshops Co-ordinator Samantha Pickering and Tutor Ruth Pieloor represented CYT at the Australian Theatre Forum in January and have returned inspired and overflowing with ideas for the future at CYT and in Canberra. I went to the National Youth Sector conference during this week to discuss the future of Youth Theatre in Australia with all of the Artistic Directors and CEO’s from companies around the country, and I returned to Canberra equally as invigorated and excited about our future at CYT.
Plans have begun for Imaginarium, our Festival of Storytelling in April, which looks set to include participants from primary schools all around Canberra, along with our partners ACT Writers Centre and QL2. Get set also for the 24 hour play project 7 – 12 year olds! And look out for our auditions on Saturday March 14th at C-Block.
In the office, we’re all very eager for our workshops to start next week in C-Block and our school workshops to start the week after. We’re looking forward to that buzz that all our participants and tutors bring!
On a personal note, I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone – participants, parents, friends and family of CYT. My door is always open so you’re more than welcome to drop in and say hi!
