CHRYSALIS: Associate Artists

OPENHOUSE2010CHRYSALIS: Associate Artists (18 – 25 yrs)

Six emerging artists are invited to join Canberra Youth Theatre as Associate Artists in 2012. 

Chrysalis: Associate Artists is for emerging artists who have accumulated some experience in their chosen discipline and wish to take a further step by building the skills necessary to transition into full time tertiary training or the professional industry.

Applications are open to: Directors, Designers (Set, Costume, Make-up), Technical Production (Lighting, Sound, Crew), Management (Stage, Production), Playwrights and Producers.

Chrysalis: Mentoring Program responds to requests by emerging artists for individual mentoring in the areas of Directing, Design, Technical Production, Playwriting, Management and Producing. Individual requests range from formal mentoring on a personal project, work experience or being attached as an assistant to a professional artist on a project or production. Chrysalis allows emerging artists to develop their craft within the safety of a company structure, as well as learning, collaborating and being mentored by professional artists.

In 2012, CYT will present 4 new plays in a staged reading, by promising emerging playwrights from the ACT and across Australia. With a small creative team, actors will workshop new texts and prepare a minimalist moved reading of the work for a single public performance. The staged readings have minimal set, no costumes and suggestive light and sound, to maximise audience focus on the writing.

Open House: Emerging Artists Residency

Emerging artists aged 18-25 from within the ACT & Interstate   

Open House: Emerging Artists Residency invites emerging artists to take theatrical risks and expand their performance horizons through engaging in a full-time artistic residency in our space for a fortnight. CYT will provide one ACT and one interstate emerging artist with the opportunity to develop a new work in our theatre. The successful applicants will have full, uninterrupted use of our versatile theatre space for 2 weeks, the support of a mentor, technical support, access and use of CYT’s workshop and office resources and a small production budget. Artists will also be paid a stipend of $500 per week, to support their artistic practice. Transport and accommodation will be provided for the interstate artist. Both residencies will conclude with a showcase of the developing work and a facilitated discussion.

CHRYSALIS: Scholarships

Canberra Youth Theatre provides several scholarships each year, to assist artists or parents in financial difficulty with Ensemble or Workshop fees. All scholarships are by application and are updated on the website throughout the year, so check back each semester for what is available.
