COCKROACH by Sam Holcroft | 2012 Tour

Australian Premiere Tour in Association with Australian Theatre for Young People & St. Martin's Youth Arts

“…the work did what I think all theatre should do, evoke the invisible and unseen shadows that lurk in all of us and within cultures.”
“I think Artaud would have been compelled if sitting in the audience…as I think would Peter Brook.”
“…the emerging of a new youth theatre that is bold, dangerous and compelling.”
                                Joe Woodward, ACT Theatre Reviewer

COCKROACH by Sam Holcroft is a damning exploration of the need for resilience and adaptation in young people, striking Darwin's theory of evolution straight into the heart of a group of high school students, trapped in an after school biology detention class - a microcosm of the long and bloody war happening outside the school walls.

The 2011 Team of emerging actors, designers and production team delivered a high quality, Australian Premiere production in March, smashing perceptions of what youth theatre is and can be, in the ACT.  CYT, in association with Australia's leading Youth Arts Organisations, ATYP and St Martin's Youth Arts, is supporting this exciting team of emerging artists to share this work with a broader audience and network with other independent and emerging artists for a tour to Sydney and Melbourne in March 2012.

Where:    C Block Theatre, Canberra | St Martin's Youth Theatre, Melbourne | Australian Theatre for Young People, Sydney
