Who: Emerging Actors, Emerging Production & Design Team aged 16-25 from CYT Actors / Teen Ensembles & Production Ensemble

CYT is fortunate to be engaging Nevena Mrdjenovic on this production. Nevena is an exceptionally talented emerging designer and a recent graduate of UTS. After a successful stint as the Stage Manager of Retrieval, Gemma Baker will again join us as the Stage Manager of Cockroach. Emerging lighting designer Samantha Pickering will also join us again after her work on Retrieval.

What: The emerging artists of 2010 put their training to the test in 2011 as they take on the challenge of acting, designing and producing their own Australian premiere production. COCKROACH by Sam Holcroft is a damning exploration of the need for resilience and adaptation in young people, striking Darwin's theory of evolution straight into the heart of a group of high school students, trapped in an after school biology detention class - a microcosm of the long and bloody war happening outside the school walls. The emerging artists will spend an intensive week in January together, exploring and developing the concept for the production. They will be mentored by CYT's Production/Technical Manager and Artistic Director through the full production and rehearsal process. This production will have the capacity to tour the ACT and beyond and will be part of exploration for the emerging designers, stage manager and producers of this Australian Premiere.
