It’s the end of the year and it’s been so fun! We have our final end of semester performances this week, at our new venues: Red Hill Primary School and Tuggeranong Arts Centre, which the whole office is excited about – we’re all going! Our final primary performances this semester have been wonderful, full of variety in terms of skill and content. It’s always so inspiring to see such development amongst our young artists that may not always be spotted by others. There were a number of young participants who found it challenging to say just a few words in front of others at the beginning of this year, and now they are standing up in front of over 30 people, committing to their performance.

In 2016 we’re going to have a very “voicey” year, really focusing on vocal technique and skill, so rest up over the holidays, ready to return to CYT to develop stronger voices! Next year will be a big year again, with three productions. Make sure you come to the Christmas Garden Party on December 11 to find out what they are and to enjoy a cupcake with our brand new CYT logo on it. Don’t forget to RSVP to Cassie at info@cytc.net so we know how many cupcakes to order!

This year has been a year of change and new developments at CYT and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank and farewell Karla Conway. Karla has been on maternity leave this year after the birth of baby Aria and has now decided to move on from the company permanently. Karla was the Artistic Director and CEO of CYT for five years and in that time achieved amazing things. Some of her key milestones include organising an interstate tour of CYT’s Australian premiere of Cockroach in Syney, Melbourne and Canberra in partnership with Australian Theatre for Young People and St Martin’s Youth Arts Centre; commissioning and having published a number of plays at CYT, continually demonstrating her support of Australian artists and emerging artists; and initiating two international collaborations – in the UK with Action Transport Theatre and in New Zealand with Long Cloud Youth Theatre, which saw our company co-produce and tour a world premiere work overseas in 2015, introducing Australian youth theatre to a new, international audience. From all of us at CYT; staff, tutors, artists, families and audiences, we wish you the absolute best for your new future Karla, an you will always be a part of the CYT family.

I’d like to wish everyone who is a part of CYT a safe and happy holiday. I look forward to seeing you at the Christmas Party and then back with us again in the new year because there is too much fun to be had!
